On November 4th and 5th, the Medical Cannabiz World Summit will be held in Malta, a small European country placed on a set of islands in the central Mediterranean.
The international event will join over 2000 researchers, investors, members of the European and Maltese parliaments, medical, law, and pharmaceutical specialists, as well as renowned journalists. Mostly directed to entrepreneurs, tech experts and investors, this summit’s discussed topics will include technology, education, investment, and legislation in the medical cannabis business sector.
The goal is to share and provide innovative ideas for the medical cannabis industry, new high-tech solutions and developments, as well as further discussing the state of cannabis legislation all around the world. The organizers intend to promote technological and pharmaceutical advances in this sector, and the event is sponsored by prominent entities such as Forbes, BH Synergy Group, and the European Cannabinoid Therapy Association.
Malta is known for its strong pro-medical cannabis stance and as a “tech hub” for the medical cannabis industry. In 2018, the government legalized the use of medical cannabis by making an amendment to the Drug Dependence Act. Also, soon after, the parliament enforced The Production of Cannabis for Medicinal and Research Purposes Act. This law allows the production of cannabis in Malta, as long as it’s under strict regulation and environment control, and only for pharmaceutical and medical research purposes.
In fact, 10 applications for the Production of Cannabis program were already approved by the Malta Medicines Authority. This Act places Malta as an official cannabis producer, a feat that other European countries like Germany have long been trying to accomplish. Also, the gathering of so many experts in the field in the World Summit may, in fact, be of tremendous importance for the development of the medical cannabis industry in Europe.
